Initially, ten WH15s rigged and sailed- or paddled- through the kitchen to participate in Wednesday night’s race and were met with glassy water and little wind. Despite race committee’s best efforts to set a short course and even line, the wind continued to shift 180 degrees in a near loop, making the endeavor impossible. With strengthening tide, three boats chose to retire after the first leg. The wind shift pattern made for an exciting race for the remaining seven WH15s as individual boats swapped ladder rungs constantly throughout each leg. Racers made small adjustments hoping to pick up speed as the parade of boats sailed slowly to the yacht club, but Cactus Pie (#9), Bahama Gal (#10), and Goose (#22) held off their competitors and rounded the can in first, second, and third.
