Wednesday Night Race Recap – June 25
Sometimes, you just can’t beat Mother Nature. Eight boats hit the line, including Rainbow (sail #5) and Ghost (sail #7), both making their season debuts.
The wind had other ideas—shifting 180°, then again, then 270°, before dying off entirely and teasing a return. After a delay, we managed a shortened course, but a last-minute shift turned the race into more of a parade than a duel.
Still, it was a hot day that gave way to a stunning evening on the water—proof that even when the racing is mellow, the sailing still delivers.
Saturday Series – June 28
Six boats made the line for two races in a light breeze, with the boat end slightly favored. Bob found his usual light-air magic and pulled ahead early. Behind him, a tight battle for second unfolded between Tight Squeeze (Scott Brookes) and Windward (me).
On the final downwind leg, Scott and Bruce slipped inside us, dropping us back to fourth. We made a push on the last beat and edged out Bruce in a photo finish for third.
The second race was... a different story. We had a perfect start lined up at the boat—until Bruce boxed us out. We circled around to reset, only to find Hi Toots (my own father!) holding the line. Another spin, another delay. We started late, clawed back to fourth briefly, but couldn’t hold it.
From my view deep in the fleet, a big right shift rolled through. It boosted Tight Squeeze and Hi Toots while hurting Goose, locking in their 1–2–3 finish respectively.
